In France, Civil Unions Gain Favor Over Marriage
say word. say true. so many reasons that i may really belong across the atlantic. my relationships should/will be between God & me & my partner (whoever he is, whenever he is). if we welcome religious ritual into it - so... be it. But the state doesn't belong in it - ain't welcome. However, if it wants to give us tax breaks & legal protections & the ability to see & make decisions for each other when we're dying because we've chosen to establish a household (& work & pay taxes) in its territory & they want to give us benefits for doing so, so that we'll keep doing so (& to give other folks regardless of gender the same because they do the same) - I'm down. but *that* relationship, the relationship that i (or others) may choose to work at & develop & commit to & pray/sweat/cry/sacrifice/bleed for ... the state has no role in it. a marriage, if i choose it (or if he needs it) is about my commitment to him & God; for me the separation of church & state may indeed be sacred
