Dilemmas of a poor grad-student diva. Episode: Open Bar

Off on a voyage in just a few days, our heroine has finally started to get things on track. Up early to send emails alerting folks of her arrival and to rdv w/program director to get her students exams? Check. Hit the drug store for last minute purchases (while avoiding the temptation to sit down in one last time for a leisurely lunch in the nabe)? Check. Home w/out diverting from charted path to get some work done early before the long arduous process of doin her hair? Check.

Having arrived safely home on schedule, our heroine sits down to check her email (quickly) before getting to work. To her surprise, in her inbox she finds an email from one of her girls ... an invitation. For a cocktail party. For charity. Tonight (the only night, ironically, when she actually has the requisite time to do her ever-lengthening hair).

She reads it once. Reads it twice. She KNOWS she shouldn't go. It's not cheap (and let us not forget, she is the POOR grad -student diva). But ... all the proceeds go to the kids. And it's guaranteed to be good people - her girl never lets her down. And then ... there's the ... [dum dum dummm] Open bar.

Background light dim. Spotlight comes up as camera pans right and zooms in for a close up shot of our conflicted heroine...

Demon: Come on now, how *better* to meet cool folk, i.e. sexy black men (hint hint)

Angel: J - you are leaving in 4 days, have not packed or worked or...
Demon: Oh pshaw ... pack, schmack, You've made this run a million times - that'll take you no time. Girl, you're a pro.
Angel: AND let me remind you, you're a *poor* grad student - on her way to France. Um - need i say - Euro/dollar ratio???
Demon: Ahh - but it's for a good cause. Don't you want to help the kids?!?! You don't want them to end up like your currently embattled students do ya? You know: Invest in the future, each one teach one and all that jazz

Angel: Yo - let's just keep this mad real - if you go out tonight, you - Heiffa - will not only be breaking the bank, but more importantly you will have NO time to do your hair before you head to the other side of the big waters... PLUS you've got three - count em 1-2-3 parties to got to on Saturday. And whether you say it English or en francais - Jacked hair does not a diva make...
Demon: Chile' you'd be a diva and if hair your hair were knotted, natty and you were rocking a burlap sack.
Angel: [gives demon a piercing did you just say that ish look]
Demon: [with the sista girl neck roll] Yep - Sho did.

Angel: Alright, see what happens listening to this fool. Now, when you're wanderin round Paris, w/no money, unable to hit up this season's "soldes" (sales), head to that Harvard/Yale cocktail party on the Seine or even to partake in the heavenly wonder that is a La Duree rose macaroon... don't come to us talking about ... Please Lord, help me. make a way out of no way....
Demon: [Rolls eyes then leans in to whisper in our heroine's ear] 2 words for ya: Open BAAARRRRR....

Camera zooms out: Our heroine, at her desk, head bowed tryin (desperately!) to muster some inkling of sage restraint ... as her hand, actin on it's own accord, reaches for the credit card...

Dang. Foiled again. [sigh]
The spirit is willing... but the flesh ... oh the flesh...
